Core HIV/AIDS Treatment Center

Designated as a Core AIDS/HIV Treatment Center for Ibaraki Prefecture since July 18, 1994. Hospitals are designated by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare based on recommendations from prefectural governments.

Functions of a Core HIV/AIDS Treatment Center

  1. Provide comprehensive treatment
  2. Provision of necessary medical equipment and private rooms
  3. Counseling system
  4. Inter-institutional cooperation
  5. Nosocomial (hospital-acquired) infection prevention system
  6. Staff education and health management

On April 5, 2007, the hospital was designated by Ibaraki Prefecture as a “Core HIV/AIDS Treatment Center”.

On April 25, 1997, a local base hospital system was established for the purpose of improving the level of HIV/AIDS medical care and correcting regional disparities. However, as patients are concentrated in these local base hospitals, a new system of core hospitals was established on March 31, 2006, selected by prefectural medical associations, local base hospitals, and other related parties. The system was established on March 31, 2006.

The functions of a Core Treatment Center, including the functions required of a base hospital:

  1. Implementation of advanced HIV treatment
  2. Maintenance of facilities and equipment
  3. Training and medical information provision to local base hospitals
  4. Cooperation with local base hospitals
