As part of the systematization of medical facility functions, this system approves the designation of hospitals with specified functions if they have the ability to provide advanced medical care, develop and evaluate advanced medical technology, and conduct training related to advanced medical care as well as if they have personnel assignments, structural facilities, etc. appropriate for such hospitals.
This hospital was approved by the Ministry of Health and Welfare on April 1, 1995.
Currently, as of April 1, 2022, 78 university hospitals and 87 facilities, including the National Cancer Center Hospital, National Cardiovascular Center, National Cancer Center Hospital East, Cancer Institute Hospital Ariake, National Center for Global Health and Medicine Hospital, Shizuoka Cancer Center, Osaka International Cancer Center, Toho University Medical Center Omori Hospital and St. Luke’s International Hospital, have been approved.
