On May 3, 2024, the final report meeting for the JICA Partnershi program on SAFER Project in Laos, was held. Participants included representatives from the Ministry of Health, Mittaphab Hospital, Japan International Cooperation Agency, the University of Tsukuba (as implementing organization representative), and Japan Research Institute for Social Systems (as project member).
During the meeting, the achieved project goals and the analysis results of the Emergency Medical Service Support System (ESS) were shared. Based on these results, JICA and the project implementing team made recommendations to the Ministry of Health and Mittaphab Hospital regarding the operation of ESS and the Command and Control Center.
On May 6, a traffic safety seminar was conducted at Vientiane High School, targeting approximately 1,200 people. The seminar shared accident-prone areas and time zones based on the ESS analysis. In Laos, many students commute by motorcycle, and most accidents involve young people, including students.
Additionally, the use of public buses was encouraged to enhance safety awareness.
Furthermore, a demonstration of traffic accident rescue by community volunteer emergency responders was carried out. Real motorcycles were used, creating an immersive environment to promote emergency response activities.
This activity marks the final phase of the SAFER Project’s on-site activities. A comprehensive project completion report session is scheduled for this summer, and we encourage your active participation.
