On July 21, the Annual Meeting of the JICA Partnership Program (SAFER Project) and a preview of the Command and Control Centre of Vientiane Capital(CCC) were held at the Mittaphab Hospital, Ministry of Health, Lao PDR.(2022年07月21日)

In October 2022, the CCC will be operational for the first time in Laos, and a new government emergency call number, 1195, will be established at the same time, so that emergency calls to 1195 for an accident or sudden illness will be connected to the CCC.

The sector leaders related with Emergency Medical Services(EMS), Ministry of Health, Ministry of Public Work Transportation, Mittaphab Hospital, Settathirat Hospital, Mahosot Hospital, University of Health Sciences Lao, 5 rescue teams(1623, 1624, 1625, 1628, 1630),  University of Tsukuba, Japan and Japan Research Institute for Social Services (JRISS) , gathered in the meeting and reached a consensus on CCC operations and future EMS, and exchanged promises to cooperate with each other.

After the meeting, a preview of the actual CCC and a demonstration of the process from the call to the dispatch of an ambulance were held.

The project aims to strengthen the capacity building of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and stop the fatality rise caused by road traffic crashes in Vientiane Capital. However, EMS handles more than just traffic accidents. The new EMS system is expected to be useful for a wide range of emergency medical conditions, such as stroke, cardiovascular disease, and obstetrics.
